| A Giant Walk-Through Oak Tree! |
|
 |
There's plenty of
learning at The Forest Discovery Center, but there's
also plenty to do for everyone as well! Activities for
both young and old await you in our Activity Area. The
first thing that greets you as you enter the Activity
Area is an enormous walk through tree! Step inside this
giant oak tree, experience its grandeur, view a video
presentation, and sign the inside of the tree in support
of our reforestation efforts. |
|
 |
| Grab a seat in the
Mini-Theatre, where four short videos show how pencils
are made; how paper is made; the story of the Louisville
Slugger bat; and a story of a tree who starts in the
forest, eventually ends up in a house, and all the people
and things he meets along the way |

Or you could "Join
the Block Party!" Kids are encouraged to "get
down" on the ground and build whatever they'd like
in our Block Party area -- an area of wooden blocks
where a child's imagination is their only limit. Kids
can also play in Oakie's Play Area, where puzzles, leaf
tracings, tic-tac-toe games and more are there for their
entertainment. |
|
 |
| There's also a beautiful
1,000 square foot wooden mural ("Seasons in Wood")
created using an age-old artwork technique called marquetry.
The mural was designed and constructed by our master
woodcraftsman, Dan Diekhoff. He loves to talk about
his creation and explain the stories he tells through
his artwork. Visit his workshop and watch him as he
creates his next masterpiece! |
